SPECIAL CITY ASSEMBLY – OCTOBER 20, 2021

REFERENDUM – NOVEMBER 2, 2021

Voters and citizens qualified to vote at municipal assemblies in the city of Canton, Connecticut are hereby notified and notified that a special municipal assembly will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, October 20, 2021 at the Canton High School auditorium, 76 Simonds Road, Canton, Connecticut, for the following purposes:
Item 1. Discuss and consider a resolution (a) authorizing a credit of $ 5,400,000 to finance the costs of the construction of a new fire station at 51 River Road, including testing and analysis, demolition of the existing fire station, site works and other improvements (the “fire station project”), and authorizing the City to issue bonds or general obligation notes and temporary notes for a total amount n ‘ not exceeding $ 5,400,000 to fund appropriation, (b) authorizing the Selection Board to determine the scope and details of the fire hall project, to reduce or modify the scope of the fire hall project, including the removing components from it, and spending the full amount of credit for the fire station project so reduced or modified; (c) authorizing the First Selectman and the Treasurer to determine the amount, date, interest rates, terms, form and other details of the bonds or notes and temporary notes; (d) authorize the First Selectman, Executive Director or other relevant city officials to apply for and accept federal or state grants, if available, to help fund ownership and enter into any related grant agreement with this one; and (d) authorizing the board of directors, the first selector, the treasurer, the general manager and other competent officials of the City to take all other measures necessary or desirable to enable the City to complete the barracks project. fire brigade and to issue bonds, notes and / or temporary tickets.

Item 2. Pursuant to Articles 7.7, 9-369 and 9-369d of the Connecticut General Statutes, adjourn said special municipal assembly to its conclusion and submit the resolution contained in point 1 of the summons to a referendum vote on Tuesday, November 2, 2021 , between 6 a.m. and 8 p.m., as part of the election to be held on that date.

Voters will take place at the following polling station: Canton High School, 76 Simonds Avenue, Canton, Connecticut. Those qualified to vote at town halls who are not electors must vote in room # 208 of Canton High School, 76 Simonds Avenue, Canton, Connecticut.

The aforementioned resolution will be entered on the ballot papers under the following heading:

“WILL THE TOWN OF CANTON PAY $ 5,400,000 FOR THE CONSTRUCTION OF A NEW FIRE DEPARTMENT AT 51 RIVER ROAD, INCLUDING TESTS AND ANALYSIS, DEMOLITION OF THE FIRE DEPARTMENT A GLOBAL AMOUNT NOT EXCEEDING $ 5,400,000 TO FINANCE THE SAID CREDIT? “

Voters approving a resolution will vote “Yes” and those opposing a resolution will vote “No”.

The request for postal ballots must be made at the municipal clerk’s office.

The full text of the resolution to be presented in point 1 of this notice is archived and available for public inspection at the City Clerk’s office during normal business hours or, upon request, will be available by mail.
