HARTFORD, CT (WFSB) – Businesses in downtown Hartford received some exciting news on Friday as Travelers Insurance and The Hartford announced that their employees were returning to the office in just weeks.
A downtown restaurant owner says these workers have been missed and are ready for them.
“That means a ton for downtown businesses. As you know, the insurance companies and businesses here are the heart and soul of this city,” says Bill Carbone, owner of Sorella.
Hartford Mayor Luke Bronin says it’s a positive step forward.
“It has been two long years since tens of thousands of employees who normally work downtown every day have not been here and we are delighted and ready to welcome them back,” he said.
In a statement, Travelers said some of their employees: “have already started coming to the office on a voluntary basis, and from March 14, employees will return on a larger scale with the option of a hybrid work.”
The Hartford says that due to the decline in COVID cases, their top leadership will return March 21 and a large portion of their workers will return beginning April 4.
Sorella says this comeback has been a long time coming.
“We survived and we’re thriving, and we’re doing pretty well downtown, but this is just another boost to keep us going,” added Sorella.
Channel 3 has contacted Aetna about their return to work plan.
