More than 18.5 lakh candidates appear for the TNPSC Group IV exam

More than 18.5 lakh candidates from the state sat for the Group IV examination organized by the Tamil Nadu Public Service Commission (TNPSC) on Sunday. More than 3.5 lakh candidates failed to pass the exam.

In the state, more than 22 lakh candidates have been given hall tickets for the examination, for direct recruitment to positions included in Ministerial Service of Tamil Nadu, Judicial Ministerial Service of Tamil Nadu, Secretariat Service of the Tamil Nadu, the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly Secretariat Service, Tamil Nadu Slum Non-Technical Subordinate Service of Customs Clearance Board and Subordinate Service of Tamil Nadu Housing Board.

In Chennai, a popular hub for the pageants, 1.56 lakh contestants received venue tickets. There were 457 test centers in the district and as many as 99,515 candidates showed up for the test. While nearly 16% of applicants were absent for the test in the state, Chennai recorded over 36% absentees. Chennai Collector S. Amirtha Jothi and tax authorities inspected various centers including Ramana Vidyalaya in Sholinganallur.

In March, TNPSC advertised 7,301 vacancies for Village Administrative Officer, Junior Assistant, Typist, Bill Collector, Storekeeper including 163 vacancies in councils such as Tamil Nadu Urban Habitat Development Board and the Tamil Nadu Housing Board. Vacancies have increased over the past few months.
