Lawmakers tell fully vaccinated federal workers to return to office

A group of lawmakers introduced legislation that would require all fully vaccinated federal employees to return to work in person at their agency offices.

The Resume employee work Law of 2021 (HERD) (P. 3095) would require all federal employees, except the Department of Defense, who comply with President Biden’s executive order on mandatory vaccinations, to return to their duty station and to the hours they worked before the COVID pandemic- 19.

The bill was introduced by Senator Cynthia Lummis (R-WY) and is co-sponsored by Senators John Barrasso (R-WY), Cindy Hyde-Smith (R-MS), Marsha Blackburn (R-TN), Rick Scott (R -FL), Mike Rounds (R-SD) and Roger Marshall (R-KS).

Lawmakers are introducing the legislation because they have heard from many of their constituents who are frustrated with the difficulty in obtaining services from federal agency offices that are closed or have limited hours, including the Social Security Administration, the Internal Revenue. Service, the National Personnel Records office. , Veterans’ Offices, the U.S. Department of State Visa Processing Center, and the Western Passport Center.

“It is high time that federal workers returned to the office to help the people of Wyoming and voters across the United States. There is a huge backlog in processing cases, and it is negatively impacting our veterans, seniors, business owners and American citizens, ”said Senator Lummis. “It’s time to put politics aside, follow the science and get back to work. Americans across the country have returned to work in person, and the federal bureaucrats who work for them should do the same. “

Senator Rounds noted, “From getting drought relief from the Farm Service Agency to receiving military service documents from the National Personnel Records Center, South Dakotas have long delays in our federal agencies. . I’ve heard directly from South Dakotas whose applications and applications are on the back burner because some federal agencies are not fully staffed and have not returned to the office. These delays have real consequences for those who get VA or Social Security benefits, receive a federal tax return, and seek immigration help. It is time for all federal workers to return to their workstations to correct outstanding backlogs and meet the needs of our constituents. “

Senator Blackburn added, “The people of Tennessee have spent the past 18 months showing up for work and making America work. Now it is time for federal government bureaucrats to do the same.
