Tata Consultancy Services recently said that 20% of its employees over 6 lakh are now working from their designated office as the company seeks to return to a normal office work pod after the pandemic. With several employees working from the office, TCS’ work-from-home regime is slowly being phased out, although the company plans to implement a structured hybrid working model by 2025.
TCS CEO Rajesh Gopinathan in his remarks to the media after announcing April-June quarter results on Friday said that for the time being the company will further encourage the return to power until it is reaches pre-pandemic levels or at least 80 percent. The TCS 25/25 model will be run after that, he said.
“The 25/25 plan needs to be executed in a more controlled manner and so the path to getting there will involve first returning to a more normal working environment and then moving to the permanent hybrid model. We will continue to bring it back to our numbers. usual – 50-60-70-80% – as we move forward. We should see steady progress on this every month from now on,” Gopinathan said.
TCS announced in April 2020 its 25/25 model. Under this, the company projects that by 2025, only 25% of its associates will have to work off-site at any time. In addition, employees will not need to spend more than 25% of their time at work. Within project teams, only 25% of employees can be collocated.
When announcing its FY22 fourth quarter results in April, Gopinathan told reporters that TCS had asked its senior partners to return to their delegated locations. Initially, only those senior associates will start going into the office three days a week from April, he said.
“We are starting with our senior associates, the top 50,000 employees, who will start coming into the office, starting three days a week starting this month. And then we will continually increase the coverage of associates who will start to come back. So at some point in the middle of the year we should be somewhere in the pit on the way to 80:20,” Gopinathan told reporters earlier this year.
“We need to get back to a more normal pattern of around 80:20, before we start migrating to the 25 by 25 pattern and hopefully if the trajectory we’re seeing now continues, we’ll start to accelerate that return to the pattern. . 80:20 model,” the CEO said at the time.
TCS has kept its promise by recalling more of its employees during these few months. TCS work from home is no longer available for about 1 lakh of its employees.
As TCS work from home will soon end for more employees, the company reported attrition of 19.7%, compared to 17.4% in Q4FY22.
