Trichy: A 14-year-old boy missing since Thursday drowned in the Cauvery River after his body was found at the Mukkombu Dam in Trichy on Friday. N Jayaraj of Periyakadai Street, a Class IX student at ER Higher Secondary School, left home for school on Thursday, but police said he skipped class and went swimming at Mukkombu.
His father looked for him on Thursday but to no avail. However, on Friday morning the body of a boy was found floating between flaps 31 and 32 of the Mukcombu dam. SSI Govindharasu of Vaathalai station who investigated the case said the Village Administrative Officer (VAO) of Kariamanickam village and the police went to the scene and recovered the body.
Police initially had no idea of ​​the identity as there were no missing boy complaints in the surrounding police jurisdiction. Around the same time, they learned that an old man had found a school bag with books on the bed of the Cauvery River on Thursday and handed it over to Jeeyapuram Police. Vaathalai Police checked the books in the bag and determined the boy’s identity as Jayaraj. His body was sent to Srirangam Government Hospital for autopsy and registered case.
