To qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements outlined below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work performed in national service programs (eg, Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (eg, professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume should clearly describe your relevant experience; if you qualify based on your education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Additional information on transcripts can be found in this document. Selective Placement Factor: Requires a typing fluency of at least 40 words per minute (WPM) based on a 5-minute sample with 3 errors or less. Minimum Qualifications for the GS-06: Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes general office work experience; answer telephones, receive and distribute mail and maintain records. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the Federal Public Service (GS-05). OR Education: Half a year (i.e. 9 semester hours) of graduate school in a field that demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the job of the position, such as business administration , public administration, organizational behavior, management, or a discipline related to the position. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the calculated percentage of requirements is at least 100%. To calculate the requirement percentage, divide the total number of months of experience by 12. Then, divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) by 9. Add the two percentages. Minimum Qualifications for GS-07: Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes performing administrative functions such as reviewing outgoing correspondence, preparing reports and presentation data, interpreting regulations /policies and the use/application of office applications or systems. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the Federal Public Service (GS-06). OR Education: A full year of graduate school in a field that demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the job of the position, such as business administration, public administration, organizational behavior, management, or a discipline related to the position. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the calculated percentage of requirements is at least 100%. To calculate the requirement percentage, divide the total number of months of experience by 12. Then, divide the total number of graduate semester hours completed (or equivalent) by 18. Add the two percentages. You will be assessed on the basis of your skill level in the following areas:
Administration and management Applies technology to tasks Customer service (clerical/technical) Manages resources have 52 weeks of federal service at the next lower rank or equivalent (GS-05, if applying for GS-06 and GS-06, if applying for GS-07). For most grade-interval vocational series, the qualification standard requires at least 1 year of specialized experience. Sometimes, however, there is no position in the normal line of progression in an organization that is one grade lower than the position to be filled. In such cases, 1 year of specialized experience at the second lower level (GS-05) is creditable for in-service candidates. However, for external applicants (i.e. those without current or prior competitive or excluded federal service), 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower level is required.
